This is an excerpt from the data visualization talk I gave in October 2013 at the AASP Summit, in which I presented a solicitor portfolio tool that I invented.

Why look at 200 names presented like this:

I have not added another dimension - at the time I was solely working with fundraising data and didn’t have a good way to make the chart interactive so that a fundraiser could drag the chart around and see all the bubbles. But I definitely look forward to making new exciting types of data viz as I progress in my studies!

1,000 Women Were At Google's Developer's Conference And They Were Badly Needed

I agree with this article’s point, but apparently not for the same reasons. The only specific argument this article makes for having women at this conference (and in tech in general, it seems) is so that they’ll notice when wearables don’t fit women.

How about: more women in tech will lead to a broader variety of tech products and services because those women will create them? How about: more women in tech will lead more young girls to realize that tech is an industry for them, too? How about: more women at conferences will help stem the disturbing trend of sexual harassment at conferences?

We have a lot more to offer than being demo mannequins.
