Google said that nearly 1,000 women registered for the conference, making up 20% of the attendees.
I agree with this article’s point, but apparently not for the same reasons. The only specific argument this article makes for having women at this conference (and in tech in general, it seems) is so that they’ll notice when wearables don’t fit women.
How about: more women in tech will lead to a broader variety of tech products and services because those women will create them? How about: more women in tech will lead more young girls to realize that tech is an industry for them, too? How about: more women at conferences will help stem the disturbing trend of sexual harassment at conferences?
We have a lot more to offer than being demo mannequins.
